Sam has been musing here at the end of 2007.  We have been
cruising for over two years now.  Here we are in Mazatlan after more
than 6,000 miles of sailing (and motoring) from Richmond, California
on 16 October 2005.  In that time we, sometimes with additional
crew, often not, traveled on Catch The Wind from Richmond to
Puerto Vallarta; north in the Sea of Cortez to Loreto; back to La Paz
and around Cabo, up to San Diego and on to San Francisco; back
south around Cabo to La Paz and north to Bahia de Los Angeles;
then back south to La Paz and around Cabo and north as far as
Santa Barbara; and finally back south around Cabo to La Paz and
across the Sea of Cortez to Mazatlan.  We made many side trips,
some road trips, and did quite a lot of backtracking.  In that time we
have seen the tropics around Puerto Vallarta and the stark desert
and rough topography of the Baja California peninsula; fallen in love
with the cruising lifestyle; made close friends with poor Mexican
fishermen and many other cruisers from all walks of previous lives;
and done so much more.  Just after 20 May 1955 when a 20-year old
Sam Crabtree had ground-breaking surgery for a cerebellar brain
tumor, no one ever thought this fantastic life style was even an
outside possibility in his future.  He will celebrate his 73rd birthday on
March 1st next year.  Sam and Susie are still having a wonderful time
together and look forward to more wonderful years of cruising.
